In 2014, PCEPA decriminalized the selling of sex, while holding sex buyers and exploiters accountable for the harm they cause. PCEPA protects the agency and rights of Canada’s most vulnerable women and children, especially those in Indigenous and immigrant communities.
VCASE is a non-partisan collective of diverse individuals and organizations who have come together
as a single voice advocating to end all forms of sexual exploitation.
VCASE advocates alongside survivors of sexual exploitation in prostitution, pornography, and
human trafficking. VCASE hears and amplifies the voices of those who have been silenced by
the exploiters.
VCASE focuses on retaining, strengthening, and enforcing Canada’s current prostitution law,
the Protection of Communities and Exploited Persons Act (PCEPA). In 2014, PCEPA
decriminalized the selling of sexual services, while holding sex buyers and exploiters
accountable for the harm they cause.
VCASE advocates for gender equality, thus does not support decriminalizing the sex buyer. This
normalizes and increases all forms of sexual exploitation.
PCEPA protects the agency and rights of Canada’s most vulnerable, especially those in
Indigenous and immigrant communities. It interferes with men’s perceived right to purchase
sexual services and protects already-marginalized girls, boys, youth and women who are the
most harmed in the sex industry.
VCASE wants to push the focus on the demand for prostitution.
The buyers are the ones behind the violence, the trauma inflicted and the ones that make it unsafe. A law legalizing criminal behaviour won't help. It'll only keep the government less involved with the women's safety.

Be in touch with your MP and MLA. Ask them what they know about PCEPA (Protection of Communities and Exploited Persons Act).
Share with them that you agree with this law, that they should support it, and that they need to be asking for more money from Ottawa for organizations that are doing direct care for survivors.
Contact your local police department and see what they are doing to enforce PCEPA (Protection of Communites and Exploited Persons Act).
If they are not doing anything, gather some like-minded people. Through regular contact and community action, let your police know that enforcement and curbing the demand for paid sex is the law.
Speak up. Educate others on the real facts of prostitution, and the façade of “choice”.
Ask the men in our life if they purchase sex including pornography. If they do, educate them about the realities of the sex industry and how they are perpetuating these systems of inequality and violence.
